Our former member, Terry Sheldrake, showed us the Venetian portrait painting technique (oil painting) and put our skill to a formidable test. Having talked us though it he also gave us a printout, several pages, further outlining the process. He then proceeded giving us ready made portraits (a drawing of Grisaille) to work on. Initial we had to complete the black and white stage. Terry then returned a few weeks later when we had to try to add colour to the painting. Terry deserves an inordinate amount of credit for his preparation of the project and the amount of time he spent with us. Some of us were given a different portrait (an Afghan girl) as they already had ‘done’ Grisaille at Acklington art group. All of us taking part thoroughly enjoyed the whole project.
