Lesbury Village Hall

A little gem at the heart of the community

Our Village Hall continues to thrive with its usual wide variety of activities for the community.  Additionally, St Mary’s Church used the hall for 2 services a month throughout the winter.  However, in March, both the Lesbury WI and Autumn Club held their final meetings.  In both instances this was due to dwindling numbers.

Our committee of trustees remained the same in 2024-2025 and the majority of responsibilities remaining the same, with one exception, Kevin McKenna took over the role of leading on green energy.  Unfortunately, one long standing trustee, Geoff Wright, is stepping down in May.  With his knowledge of health and safety and his practical skills, he will be missed.  We thank him for all his work.

Hall fees have remained as they were.  Pilates, Bridge and Choir remain extremely popular.

During the year we once again hosted Hipsburn School for the INTU film screenings; several Highlight performances; two concerts from our community choir, monthly film nights and Lesbury Lunch club.

Having joined the Northumberland Community Energy Limited, we are now in a position to proceed with the installation of solar panels on the south facing roof as Northumberland County Council agreed planning permission.  We are currently in discussions with Northumberland Estates’ solicitors before we can go ahead.  The consortium covers all the financial costs of this work.

There has arisen a need for some essential repointing at the front of the building and the north gable end of the supper room to resolve problems of mould, damp and water ingress.  After receiving two widely differing quotes, Northumberland Estates offered advice and a sensible, feasible solution.  Internal insulation will also be fitted to the North gable before redecoration.  Grant funding will cover the majority of this work.

Some temporary work has been done to alleviate the problem of water collecting at the front gate during heavy rain.  Further drainage work will be completed in the summer to ensure a permanent solution.

Our savings account with Saffron Building Society yielded interest of £1,908 this year.

A number of policies have been amended and updated this year; Safeguarding; alcohol; environment & energy.

As you can see it’s been a busy year of maintenance and improvement work.  The two benches we were gifted have been fully restored by Peter Davidson.  Kevin McKenna needs our thanks and applause for taking responsibility for leading and organising all the major projects.  Our grants’ magician has once again made things possible.

We look forward to all these works being completed in the coming months.  My thanks go to all trustees who help to make our hall a safe and community space.
